MTU Aero Engines is Germany's leading engine manufacturer and an established global player in the industry. MTU's portfolio of technologies for the future includes some 100 projects that are firmly focused on the company’s objectives and pursued in accordance with strict product development rules. MTU Aero Engines also benefits from the experience of its involvement in engine programmes as well as from its participation in major EU funded level 2 research projects in aviation (e.g. VITAL, NEWAC, DREAM, LEMCOTEC, E-BREAK, ENOVAL). Together with the European engine manufacturers GKN Aerospace, Rolls-Royce and SNECMA participating in ULTIMATE, MTU is committed to the goals described in the ACARE and SRIA 2050 objectives. These objectives are translated into a consistent set of technology roadmaps jointly developed by European industry in order to meet the near-, the mid- and the longterm targets.
In the ULTIMATE project, MTU contributes to the development of core technologies necessary for innovative propulsion system configurations in the work packages WP1, WP2, WP3 and WP4. For fulfilling its role in ULTIMATE project, MTU benefits from the experience of its involvement in engine programmes as well as from its participation in major EU funded level 2 research projects in aviation (e.g. VITAL, NEWAC, DREAM, LEMCOTEC, E-BREAK, ENOVAL, CLEAN SKY), and the constant contribution to project integrational subprojects based on its long-term experience.
The MTU core team for ULTIMATE provides advice and guidance to the project and specifically to partners BHL and AUTH. While exploring and studying more radical concepts and technical solutions during the course of the ULTIMATE, the academic partners are being supported by MTU in order to reach a level of continuity for easily meeting the future challenges. Thus, MTU’s participation in ULTIMATE helps ensure the consistent alignment of the specific ULTIMATE objectives with the overall European aeronautics R&D strategy in WP5 "Communication and Exploitation".
Dr.-Ing. Stefan Donnerhack,
holds a degree in Engineering and a PhD in Combustion, both from RWTH Aachen (Germany). He has more than 25 years of experience in combustion, compressors and engine performance for engine product design and module definitions. Stefan is very actively involved in numerous research and development projects, e.g. EEFAE-CLEAN, SILENCER, VITAL, NEWAC, DREAM, LEMCOTEC, E-BREAK, ENOVAL and CLEAN SKY. His focus are whole engine integration aspects and environmental impact assessments.
Dr. Michael Flouros,
is the Functional Responsible for Lubrication and Heat Management Systems within the Air and Oil Systems Group. His experience in air/oil systems goes back to the mid-nineties when he worked as a development engineer for Rolls-Royce Deutschland. Dr. Flouros was involved as a development engineer in numerous projects and actively contributed to national and international research programmes such as LEMCOTEC, ELUBSYS, NEWAC, EEFAE-CLEAN, ATOS, Lufo4. His research focuses on thermo and fluid dynamics, two phase flow phenomena, heat transfer, bearings and sub-systems.
